He knew the plans
long before we did.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Where it began
At a Leadership training graduation, my younger brother was named the most outstanding of his cohort - and Mariam, his mentor, was there behind the camera. I caught a glimpse of her more than once that day and tried very hard to get her to notice me.
The phone call
Years later, my friend Kingsley called to vent about a fight with his best friend. That best friend was Mariam. I told him to go and apologize — and promised I'd call her myself to make sure he did. She was surprised anyone would go that far. We never really stopped talking after that.
Our first date
Bojo Beach. She loves the ocean — the sound of it, the calm of it — and I was happy to follow her to the water. We talked until the tide came in.
"Will you be mine?"
I finally asked the question I'd been carrying since 2017 — would she be my girlfriend? She said yes. It only took five years to get her to notice me.
Forever
I got down on one knee and asked her to spend the rest of her life with me. She said yes — and now we'd love for you to be there when we say it again, out loud, in front of everyone we love.
